Frequently Asked Questions

How does electrolysis work?

A very fine, sterile, disposable probe that is the size of the diameter of the hair, is inserted into the hair follicle. A minute amount of current is applied which destroys the germinating cells that causes the hair to grow. Since each hair is treated individually, electrolysis is a process that requires a series of treatments.

Will it work on my skin type?

Electrolysis is safe on all skin types, skin tones, and all hair colors, including blonde and white hairs.

Why is it necessary to have regular treatments?

Not all the hair you have is visible at any given time because hair grows in cycles. Hair cycles can range from of 4-6 weeks or more. Regular appointments are needed so that we can treat any hair that has not been treated as well as well as any regrowth that may occur. Appointments will be more frequent at the beginning but as time goes by and the desired clearance is achieved they will become less frequent.

Why does some hair regrow?

Some hairs may need to be treated more than once to effectively destroy them. This ihair growth has thrin cycles ofee cycles.  Treatment is most effective in the growth phase of the cycle. However, we cannot tell what phase of growth the individual hairs are in till they are treated. For this reason, it is important to have frequent treatments. Hair that regrows is usually lighter and finer in color.

Do electrolysis treatments hurt?

Electrolysis treatments can be described as a warm, tingling sensation. The amount of discomfort varies from individual to individual and the area being treated. Some areas are more sensitive than others. Most clients find the treatments tolerable with minimal discomfort.

Are there any side effects of treatment with electrolysis?

The side effects are minimal. After treatment it is possible you may have some redness and slight swelling of the tissues. This is normal and should dissipate within 24 hours.  Post care instructions will be given to the client to ensure optimal healing.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments necessary varies depending on the area being treated and the amount of hair.  Treatment sessions can range from 15 minutes to an hour.  Factors such as hair growth cycles, density of hair, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medications and stress influence the treatment program for each individual.  It is important to follow the recommended treatment plan to achieve optimum results.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

-Please allow 3 days of growth of hair before your treatment so that the hair is long enough to grab with a pair of tweezers.

-Only clipping or shaving of hair is allowed in between treatments.

– Discontinue use of retiniods and gylcoloic acid a week before your treatment.

– Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Hydrated skin is needed for the current to work well.

– Avoid alcohol and caffeine the day of your appointment as they can dehydrate your skin and make you more sensitive to treatment.
